Hold Me - cryonicPAX

Hold Me is a fantastic song I found on the Cambridge Music Tech Mixing Secrets Library. This was super fun to get into and have some fun with the vocal processing for the first verse of the song. I ended up using quite a few effects including delay, reverb, and autotune to get a very lively and fun sound. The music bed was very dense and featured tons of synth elements that I needed to automate with panning and volume to make sure they didn't create mud in the mix. Overall, this song was just so much fun and I hope you all like it.

She's Out There - Will Fortune

She's Out There is an indie pop song by Will Fortune. I was fortunate enough to be invited to join him and his band in Studio E at Capital University one night in the spring of 2022 and record this song. We tracked the full song that night in a few takes. We tracked drums, bass, vocals, and a DX7 in a few different takes. I had a super fun time getting out the BLUE Kiwi Multi Pattern Condenser mic on all the vocals. I loved the warm sound this mic put on the vocals. I had fun with some vocal delays and saturation plug-ins to really lock in the vibe that the song carries.

Ecstasy - Ben Flowers

Ecstasy is an electronic pop song by Ben Flowers. I got this song from the Cambridge Music Tech - Mixing Secrets multitrack library. I do not own the rights to this song and used it as an educational tool to help me understand how to mix electronic music. I had a ton of fun mixing this song. The tracks sounded great upon the original download, so I didn't need to edit them too heavily. I did compress and EQ the kick to get it to have more punch and carry its low end further into the mix. The synth tracks were super fun to experiment with panning, as well as the bass. I mixed this song in the production suites at Capital University.

Tourism - Our Good Wolf

Tourism by Our Good Wolf is an alternative rock song I got from the Cambridge Music Tech - Mixing Secrets multitrack library. I do not own the rights to this song and used it as an educational tool to help me understand how to mix rock music. I really loved the effects that were done the snare during the recording to add some rattle to the drum. I didn't want to do a ton of processing to the audio since I felt like the song already had a great vibe, so I wanted to capture and accentuate it.

Naturally - Allen Stone

Allen Stone is a soul singer from Washington. He graciously uploaded some of his raw tracks to the Cambridge Music Technology - Mixing Secrets multitrack library for use. I do not own the rights to this song and used it as an educational tool to get more experience working with R&B and Soul music. I personally love this style of music so mixing this was a ton of fun. I tried to get this song to sound as if it were a live performance, and the listener was sitting in the audience. This song feels like it is performed in a smaller chamber studio and feels incredibly intimate to the listener.

Heart of Gold (Neil Young Cover) - Ed Auth

Heart of Gold is a song originally recorded by Neil Young. When I was beginning to do my own tracking and mixing, my father expressed interest in wanting to record his cover of this song. When I heard that, I jumped right on this opportunity and got him into to Studio A at Capital University. It was really interesting tracking this since it was the first time I had ever recorded harmonica. I ended up using two SM81 microphones on it and ended up barely having to edit the sound after tracking. With all that in mind, I was very happy with how this track turned out.
